This year, Asbury CDC proudly joined the 24th Annual Unity March, founded by WOW Outreach, a powerful event dedicated to stopping violence in our city—especially the violence that affects our children and youth. This march is more than a symbolic walk; it's a bold call to action and a moment of community connection and healing.
The 2025 march began at Wilson Park in downtown Flint and carved a meaningful path through the heart of the city. Our route took us north on Grand Traverse, past Hurley Hospital, weaving through key streets like M.L. King Avenue, Water Street, Lyon, University, Mason, Sixth, and Avenue B before making our way down Saginaw Street back to Wilson Park. In total, we walked more than two and a half miles—handing out community resources, stopping to pray, sharing testimonies, and offering hugs, smiles, and words of encouragement to anyone who needed them along the way.
Although we didn’t have youth participants this year due to scheduling conflicts, we were honored to stand in solidarity with WOW Outreach and the many others committed to creating a safer, more supportive Flint for everyone—especially our young people.
At Asbury CDC, youth remain at the center of our mission. Every summer, we employ up to 40 youth through initiatives such as Teen Quest/SYI, Simmons Advantage, and STRIVE. We often retain several of these young people year-round to continue their workforce development and leadership journey. Our programs aim not just to provide jobs, but to help youth build brighter futures through education, experience, and exposure to healthier lifestyles.
We are deeply grateful for WOW Outreach’s unwavering commitment to ending violence, and we will continue to show up, speak out, and walk alongside others doing this life-saving work.
